Reconnecting to Earth as Sacred: the Practice of Wild Spirituality
The interconnected and sacred reality of Nature has been forgotten by our patriarchal society, and the whole world suffers because of it. Thomas Berry named the underlying problem: "We are between stories. The old story is no longer effective. Yet we have not learned ‘the new story.’ We are talking only to ourselves. We are not talking to the rivers, we are not listening to the wind and stars. We have broken the great conversation.”2
The new story is rooted in a worldview of kinship which remembers that we belong to an interconnected family of life. And that very interconnection -- the conversation between all things -- is the presence of the Holy. This retreat, led by Victoria Loorz, founder of the Center for Wild Spirituality and author of Church of the Wild: How Nature Invites Us into the Sacred, is an immersive experience grounded in spiritual practices that help to restore the great conversation with our alive and sacred Earth. Victoria will offer an eco-spiritual lens on biblical narratives which open up the wild roots of faith and invite us to deepen our commitment to a suffering Earth by falling in love with her.
There will be contemplative space to spend time in the natural world. You are encouraged to bring your journal and wear comfortable clothing and shoes.
